Overview

Travel through the Huon Valley into Tasmania's deep south for a day of forest walks, river scenery, underground geology and local produce. The route combines the Tahune Airwalk, Hastings Caves State Reserve and a relaxed tasting stop on the return to Hobart.

Highlights

Huonville and the Huon River

Pause in Huonville for takeaway coffee and supplies, then enjoy a scenic drive along the Huon River while learning about the region's apple orchards, craft cider makers, boutique winemakers, and salmon industry.

Tahune Airwalk

Spend approximately two hours exploring the reserve. Walk the 600-metre Airwalk through the eucalyptus canopy, take the 3.4-kilometre Swinging Bridges Track across the Huon and Picton rivers, or stroll at ground level among ancient, 2,500-year-old Huon pines.

Hastings Caves

Enjoy an included guided tour through Australia's largest dolomite cave system to discover its intricate formations and geological history. The surrounding reserve is also a habitat for platypus, quolls, pademelons, and native birds.
