Weave & Wine — Connection through weaving 

Four hours on a permaculture farm five kilometers from Margaret River town center. 

You will walk the gardens to learn about the wild fibers, learn to weave a basket with your own hands, sit down to a shared seasonal board with select Indigenous foods and finish the day tasting all four Mitu wines poured at the table.

You go home with the basket you made with the skills to continue weaving. No experience needed. Just a willingness to sit down, use your hands, and take your time.

THE DAY

10.00 — Welcome refreshments. 

10.30 — Weaving at the long table. Two unhurried hours, with instruction from weaving artist, Cynamon, and plenty of hands to help. You will learn different techniques, wonder through the gardens to learn about different fibers to inspire your own creation.

12.30 — Lunch is served. A seasonal spread built from Fair Harvest's own gardens and select Indigenous foods by Koort to Koort Creations. The tasting begins alongside it: all four Mitu wines, poured at the table and talked through by Mitu's founder, Florence.

13.30 — Moments at the long table, and time to sit with the wines and the people you have spent the morning beside.

14.00 — Close.

WHAT YOU WILL MAKE

A hand-woven basket in raffia and selected natural fibers, weaved by you over two hours and finished before you leave. 

WHAT YOU WILL EAT AND DRINK

Arrival tea and coffee. A shared lunch board built from what is in season in Fair Harvest's gardens and select Indigenous foods by Koort to Koort Creations — abundant, generous, and designed to be eaten slowly at a long table.

And all four Mitu wines — Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon — poured across lunch, with the story of each one told by the person who makes them happen.

WHO LEADS IT

Weave & Wine is led by Florence Drummond, founder of Mitu Wines, award-winning Indigenous owned wine label. Florence weaves alongside you at the table and leads the tasting herself. She is joined by Cynamon Aeria of Wild Art Weaving, a weaving artist who guides the technique throughout the day. This is a Mitu Wines program, hosted at Fair Harvest Permaculture.

TAKING WINE HOME

At the end of the day, once you have tasted all four, you can order any of the Mitu wines to be sent to your door. Three-bottle sets and full six-bottle boxes are available, and postage is included. There is no pressure and no obligation. The order card comes round at the table while the glasses are still there, simply because it is easier to choose a wine you have just tasted than one you have only read about.

Fair Harvest Permaculture, 426 Carters Road, Margaret River.

A permaculture farm running since 1995, a short drive from the center of town — gardens, orchard, wide verandahs, walking trails and a bird hide.

GOOD TO KNOW

•      Adults only. Guests must be 18 years or over.

•      Maximum twenty guests. Minimum eight for the session to run.

•      Four hours, 10.00am to 2.00pm.

•      No weaving experience is needed, and there is nothing to bring.

•      Dress for a farm: flat shoes you do not mind getting dusty, a hat, and layers.

•      Please tell us about dietary requirements at least seven days ahead.

•      The session runs in most weather, with undercover space available.

•      Please arrive fifteen minutes before the start so we can begin together.
